KUCHING: Sarawak’s rising young singer, Aleysha Shareef Van Der Horst, has departed for Italy to compete in the prestigious 17th Sanremo Junior World Finals.
The 12-year-old talented vocalist earned her place in the finals after successfully passing a competitive audition, with results officially announced in late January this year.
“I pray for Aleysha’s success at Sanremo and hope she will add another feather to her many achievements,” said Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“Sanremo will provide valuable international exposure that can further develop her talent and character as she continues growing in the performing arts industry.”
Aleysha has been undergoing intensive preparation under her vocal coach, Dewi Liana Seriestha, to refine her performance ahead of the global competition.
She expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to perform at the iconic Ariston Theatre, a dream stage for many aspiring singers worldwide.
Her mother, Shirley Hasmani Eddie, conveyed appreciation for the Sarawak Government’s support, particularly the ministry’s sponsorship that enables Aleysha’s participation in the international event.
Beyond competing, Aleysha looks forward to representing Sarawak as a cultural ambassador, sharing its diverse heritage while networking with fellow contestants, industry experts, composers and producers.
A specially produced 30-second introductory video will also showcase Sarawak’s unique attractions as Aleysha takes the stage during the Finals Week in Italy.
