Rising golf stars Bernice Hwang, Joshua Lim Shine at OM-KGS Junior Masters

KUCHING: Rising junior golfers from across Borneo and beyond were put to the test, but it was Kelab Golf Sarawak’s (KGS) Joshua Lim Zhi Xing who stood out, retaining his overall boys’ title at the OM-KGS Junior Masters Open Golf Championships.

The 16-year-old, an elite player under the Malaysian Golf Association National Junior Development Programme (NJDP), led from start to finish with a three-day total of 16-over par 232 (77-76-79) to win the Boys A category and secure the overall boys’ crown for the second consecutive year.

Vincent Chan Man Ping of Kelab Golf Miri finished a distant second on 266, while Aaron Sebastian Ting of Kelab Golf Sibu placed third on 273.

Another NJDP golfer, Bernice Hwang Ee Xuan of Kelab Golf Bintulu (KGB), captured the girls’ overall title after carding a 25-over par 241 to top the Girls B category.

She finished ahead of Chrysmi Chan Man Man of Kelab Golf Miri (274) and Chloe Nguang of Kelab Golf Sarawak (286), who placed second and third respectively.

Livia Lau Kiew Lin of Kelab Golf Miri (KGM) clinched the Girls A title with a three-day total of 252, edging Myra Lisa Mohamad Norhadie of KGS (254) and Nur Fatin Syamimi of Labuan International Golf Club (256).

In the boys’ divisions, Marcus Ting Zhong Sing, Sebastian Zane Fong and Jayden Png Jun Yen finished as the top three in Boys B, while Adams Hendry, Salahuddin Azuri Azman and Tay Rui led the Boys C category. Muhammad Mu’azz Muayyad, Trevor Sim En Hui and Max Lim Xiang Her completed the podium in Boys D.

Meanwhile, Joyanne Jap Sin Yen and Sofia Nurul Zarizi topped the Girls C category, while Elora Jezzel Daynel and Giselle Wong Shi Qi led Girls D.

A special award for exemplary player went to Muhammade Alghifary Zuhayr Mohd Sharif of Labuan Golf Club.

OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd director Mustapha Ismuni, accompanied by KGS captain Roland Phang Cheng Xian and organising chairman Mike Chin Yuan Tai, presented the prizes to the winners.

The three-day competition attracted 60 players from Sabah, Labuan, Brunei Darussalam and clubs across Sarawak.
