SARAWAK government has been urged to take immediate action to address critical road safety issues in Kuching.
Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim said these concerns are particularly focused around the entrance to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and key roads impacted by the Kuching Urban Transformation System (KUTS) project.
“I would like to bring to the attention of the dangerous condition of the road near UNIMAS, which has been reported to be unsafe for road users,” he said.

He said this when debating the Supply (2026) Bill, 2025 debate at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday (Nov 27).
This follows a tragic accident on Oct 21, 2025, where a woman lost her life and two others were injured in a collision on the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.
He urged Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS), Ministry of Transport (MOTS), and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to investigate the issue and take necessary action to prevent further accidents.
In addition to the concerns near UNIMAS, he raised issues of growing traffic congestion on the southern access road to Kuching International Airport.
“The road needs to be upgraded from a single lane to two lanes to accommodate the rising volume of traffic, especially during peak hours,” he said.
He also highlighted the lack of street lighting and the need for road barriers along Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, and proposed the installation of traffic lights at the T-junction on Kuching Outer Ring Road to improve safety.
“These urgent matters require swift intervention from relevant authorities to enhance road safety across Kuching,” he said.
