KUCHING: The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Sarawak branch is organising a two-day Survey Congress.
The congress with the theme “Tomorrow and Beyong” will take place at Imperial Hotel here on 18 and 19 April. RISM is the umbrella body for the surveying professions in Malaysia. The body consists of Geomatic and Land Surveyors (GLS), Quantity Surveyors (QS), Property Management, Valuation and Estate Agency Surveyors (PMVS) and Building Surveyors (BS).
The membership of RISM comprises members from the private practice, public sector, statutory bodies, government agencies, institutions of higher learning and the corporate sector.
The surveying profession was introduced in Malaya in 1855, with the setting up of the Survey Department. In March 1961, the Institution of Surveyors under the Federation of Malaya was formed and in 1966, the name was subsequently changed to the Institution of Surveyors Malaysia.
The Sarawak Branch was established on 4 October, 1974 under the chairmanship of the late Datuk Sr Song Thian Hock, who was the Director of Lands and Surveys. The name was subsequently changed to the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) in 2011 following the granting of the royal status by the Sultan of Selangor who is also the patron.
The objectives of the RISM Sarawak Branch are to promote the surveying profession, to create wider public awareness of the surveying services available, to attract more students to take up surveying courses and to encourage qualified graduates to join it. All members and fellows of RISM are eligible to use the prefix “Sr” prior to her/his name.
As part of RISM Sarawak Branch’s initiative in promoting professional development, RISM is organising the congress as part of its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes. The congress is held over two days with parallel sessions to cater for the three sections, namely, the Geomatic and Land Surveying (GLS) Section, Property Management, Valuation and Estate Agency Surveying (PMVS) Section and the Quantity Surveying (QS) Section.
For the Geomatic and Land Surveyors, Property Management Valuers and Building Surveyors, following are the papers which will be presented:
