GEDONG: The RM1.5-million upgrade to the RGC Gedong football field, fully funded through a special allocation from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, represents a major push for sports development in the district.
The project was formally handed over to the appointed contractor by Gedong District Council Secretary, Farrah Sofya Sharbini, during a brief ceremony on Thursday.
The handover was witnessed by Abang Johari, who also serves as the Gedong state assemblyman.
According to the Premier’s special representative in Gedong, Datuk Seri Naroden Majais, the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to nurturing young talent through improved sports facilities.
“This project is one of the efforts by the Sarawak Government to provide quality sports facilities to support the development of young talents in the area,” he said.
The upgrade focuses on installing artificial turf to ensure a safer, more comfortable, and competition-ready playing surface.
Local residents have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a key step toward promoting healthy lifestyles, strengthening community ties, and opening more avenues for youth development.
