BALAI RINGIN: RM1.81 million from the Sarawak State Government’s Minor Rural Projects (MRP) fund was handed out last Monday to 98 recipients here, supporting village development, school programmes, and community initiatives.
The cheques were distributed by Balai Ringin state assemblyman, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, at his service centre, who urged recipients to practise transparency and accountability in using the funds.
Of the total, RM940,000 went to 68 recipients, including village development and security committees (JKKK), Women Bureau (Biro Wanita), churches, chapels and local associations.
The allocations are intended to support community activities such as ‘gotong-royong’, cultural and craft events, student cash incentives, sports and recreational programmes, and youth engagement.
Another RM710,000 was earmarked for 15 villages to upgrade infrastructure, repair facilities, or build new storage spaces to protect village assets.
Meanwhile, RM160,009 was distributed to 15 school parent-teacher associations (PIBG) to fund annual school activities, inter-school meets, library resources, and aid for underprivileged students.
During the handover, Snowdan reminded village heads and committees to hold regular meetings and ensure residents are informed on the proper use of the funds.
He also cautioned communities to stay health-conscious amid the ongoing tuberculosis (TB) outbreak in the region.
