KUCHING: Funds totalling RM10 million is now available to upgrade Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim here.
This was disclosed by MBKS Mayor Dato James Chan Khay Syn yesterday.
He said the road stretch has to be upgraded as it is prone to flash flood and there are plenty of potholes.
He added that the upgrading works will be carried out in two phases.
“Now we have the funds and the budget. The money is from the government. We will do a proper tender and we have already appointed a consultant,” he told reporters after MBKS full council meeting here, yesterday.
According to Mayor Chan, the road upgrading will also solve traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, MBKS Secretary Vincent Ang disclosed that the project is now about to be tendered out and will close in two months’ time.
“After everything is finalised the works will start as soon as possible and the project is expected to be completed probably by the end of next year,” he said.
On the KMC Flat lift that broke down, which was highlighted by Padungan Assemblyman Wong King Wei and reported in a Chinese daily, Mayor Chan said, the wire rod has to be changed and replaced.
“It will be tendered out and will take a bit of time as it has to be ordered from China.
“We appeal to the affected tenants to bear with us in the meantime because it has to be ordered from China and it will take a month,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Chan said MBKS has become an entity which is moving and solving the people’s problems.
“Now we are working as a better team,” he said, adding that he is getting the whole team to work together even on Saturday and Sunday.
“I am telling my councillors to see things from the perspective of the rakyat,” Mayor Chan said.
