KUCHING: The RM100 one-off Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) cash aid and targeted RON95 petrol price reduction are part of the Federal Government’s efforts to appreciate the rakyat’s support for ongoing fiscal reforms, says the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

It said these initiatives reflect the Madani Government’s commitment to redistributing the country’s growing wealth, made possible by bold fiscal reforms and more efficient economic management under the Madani Economic Framework.

“Under the newly announced measures the Madani Government will channel a one-off payment of RM100 via MyKad to every Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above starting Aug 31, under the SARA programme led by the ministry.

“This marks the first time that cash aid is distributed to all adult citizens,” it said in a statement today (July 23).

The ministry said that a total of 22 million Malaysians will be eligible to receive this credit individually, involving a total allocation of RM2 billion.

“Collectively, households have the opportunity to receive higher SARA credits. For example, a family consisting of a married couple and two children aged 18 and above would receive a total of RM400, not just RM100,” it added.

It added that with the one-off initiative, the total allocation under Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and SARA increases from RM13 billion to RM15 billion for the year 2025

Meanwhile, the ministry mentioned that the government will also implement a targeted subsidy scheme for RON95 petrol, with details to be announced by the end of Sept.

“Once the targeted RON95 subsidy is implemented, the government will reduce the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 per litre, specifically for Malaysian citizens, while foreigners will have to pay the unsubsidised market price.

“This measure will benefit approximately 18 million car drivers and motorcycle riders, including youths as young as 16 years old and gig workers,” said the ministry.

The initiatives were announced by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the special message themed ‘Penghargaan Untuk Rakyat Malaysia’ on July 23.
