MIRI: A sum of RM5 million each has been allocated to maintain two former logging roads in Mulu and Telang Usan constituencies.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the works were now on-going.

He said this after listening to a briefing on the implementation progress of some approved projects in the two constituencies here today.

Miri Public Works Department divisional engineer Stephen Ung Neng Hui conducted the briefing, which was also attended by Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala and Telang Usang assemblyman Dennis Ngau.

Also present was Senator Datuk Dr Nuing Jeluing.

Uggah said the first maintenance work project was for the Long San to Long Bangga and Pa ‘Dalih to Bario Road.

He said there are about 2,000 families from 250 longhouses scattered along this road that stretches over 144km.

Previously the road was maintained by a logging company (only in areas with logging activities).

But there was totally no maintenance work since July 2021 when the company left the area.

On the second project, he said it involved the 32km long road from Long Atip to Long Terawan in Telang Usan District and close to the Mulu National Park.

“The road condition had deteriorated and is full of potholes and uneven surfaces. “It had not been maintained since a logging company left the area about 10 years ago,” he told.

“We also had a discussion on the new steel bridge across Sg.Tutoh in Baram.

“This project is expected to be completed in March next year.

“It’s construction had been delayed due to adverse weather and high tide conditions,” he said.
