THE Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) received RM110 million to support houses of worship and mission schools, highlighting the state government’s commitment to interfaith harmony and inclusive development across Sarawak this year.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said that RM20 million allocated for mission schools was fully disbursed, benefiting 155 projects across 126 schools.

He said UNIFOR has also released RM35.78 million for 171 projects supporting houses of worship, with the remaining RM54.22 million set to be disbursed tomorrow.
He added that this ongoing financial assistance is not merely a funding exercise but a deliberate effort to preserve Sarawak’s unique culture of religious coexistence.
“Sarawak is one of the few places globally where multiple faith communities grow, worship, and develop side by side without friction,” he said this in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
He said the initiative aligns with the vision of the Premier, emphasising social unity as a cornerstone of Sarawak’s development trajectory.
“By supporting both mission schools and houses of worship, the state government demonstrates its continuous commitment to nurturing harmony, inclusivity, and community growth across the state.
“UNIFOR’s comprehensive funding approach ensures that religious institutions and schools can continue contributing to the educational, cultural, and spiritual development of Sarawak’s diverse population.
“The remaining disbursement scheduled for tomorrow will complete the year’s funding cycle, further reinforcing the state’s dedication to fostering interfaith collaboration and long-term social cohesion,”he said.
