KUCHING: A total prize pool of RM11,160 will be up for grabs at the Sarawak Unity Moves Chess Week 2026 scheduled from Apr 3 to 6 at The Spring Mall here.
Organised by the Kuching Chess Association (PCBK), the four-day event is expected to attract around 200 chess players from across Sarawak and throughout Malaysia.
The tournament will feature two main competitions, the Blitz Chess Tournament and the Standard Classical Chess Tournament, offering players the chance to compete in both fast-paced and traditional formats.
PCBK president Chuang Kuang Hong said the event aims to strengthen the development of chess in Sarawak while bringing together players from different communities.
He added that the tournament could also serve as a platform to identify promising talents who may represent the state in future Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
Apart from the competitions, several side activities will be organised during the event, including chess exhibitions, training workshops, sharing sessions and a networking dinner.
Early bird registration for the tournament is set at RM90 until Mar 20, while the standard registration fee will be RM110 thereafter.
In preparation for the event, the organising committee recently paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian to brief him on the tournament.
