LAWAS: A RM150-million private sector investment through the development of Lepapa Hypermarket and Roxy Hotel is expected to become a new catalyst for economic growth in Lawas.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the large-scale investment reflects investors’ strong confidence in Lawas’ development potential and the economic direction planned by the Sarawak Government.
He said close cooperation between the government and the private sector is crucial in accelerating economic development, attracting investments, creating jobs for the locals, and strengthening Lawas’ role as a trade, services and tourism hub in northern Sarawak.
“When the private sector is willing to invest such a large amount, it shows confidence in the potential of Lawas and the government’s development policies.
“Collaboration between the government and the private sector is vital in driving economic growth and creating job opportunities for local people,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the launch of Lepapa Hypermarket and Roxy Hotel here on Saturday (June 6).
Awang Tengah added that the development is expected to generate spillover benefits across various sectors, including trade, tourism and services, while also creating more opportunities for local entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.
He said the implementation of various strategic infrastructure projects in Lawas and the northern region of Sarawak has also boosted investor confidence to undertake large-scale developments in the area.
At the same event, Tecktonic & Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd presented RM50,000 in corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions to five local organisations as part of efforts to support community development and social welfare.
