KUCHING: The Sarawak government has allocated RM150,000 to support the Association for the Educational Development of Iban Language (AEDIL) in advancing Iban language education across the state.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas made the announcement during a courtesy call by an AEDIL delegation at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

Uggah stressed that the Iban language represents Sarawak’s history, culture and heritage, and must be preserved for future generations.

He said the allocation would empower AEDIL’s initiatives to ensure the language remains a key part of Sarawak’s identity.

The delegation, led by AEDIL President, Ambrose Jarit, included Deputy President, Abit Hong, the secretary and committee members.

The meeting focused on strengthening strategic cooperation to promote Iban language education in line with the National Education Philosophy.

AEDIL shared its milestones since its establishment in 2009, and highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance educator professionalism, expand collaboration with government agencies, and advocate for policies supporting the language’s growth.

The session concluded with a dialogue and group photo, with AEDIL reaffirming its commitment to nurturing Iban language education as part of Sarawak’s progressive future.
