TUBAU: Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon visited Pekan Tubau and Rumah Wan Usit, Sungai Merah, Jelalong, following reports of rising water levels over the past three days.

During the visit, Wilson also delivered a contribution of RM15,000 to the Rumah Wan Usit Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) as the residents refused to relocate to the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) in Sebauh.

According to Wilson, food aid for the 91 residents of the longhouse will be provided by the Bintulu Division Social Welfare Department (JKM).

“Residents have to remain vigilant and support one another at all times in case the water level continues to rise,” he said through a press statement yesterday (Jan 31).

Due to road access limitations, to facilitate the collection of food aid, the JKKK will pick up the food baskets from Bintulu JKM in Pekan Tubau.

Meanwhile, Kennedy also contributed RM500 to cover the cost of fuel for the JKKK’s boat.

Rumah Wan Usit consists of 65 doors and is located about 45 minutes from Pekan Sebauh by vehicle or 20 minutes by a 15-horsepower boat.

Also present during the visit were Bintulu District Civil Defence Force Officer Capt (PA) Mohd Johari Taufik, Tubau Police Station Chief SJN Mohammad Nadziehan Abdullah, four officers from the Sebauh District Office led by Assistant Administrative Officer Dennis Gasing Inggu, and the Chairman of the Jelalong Tubau Action Committee, Tuai Rumah Lichong Along.
