SIMUNJAN: Simunjan is on track to be the next growth centre in the Samarahan Division, driven by a RM16.3 million commercial development project currently underway.

Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris said the project involves the construction of a food court, cottage industry space and farmers’ market under Package A of the Simunjan commercial development plan which he described as a major catalyst for rural economic transformation.

According to Awla, the high-impact initiative goes beyond the development of physical infrastructure and plays a strategic role in strengthening the local economic and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“These modern facilities will offer organised, competitive, and conducive trading spaces, giving local communities more opportunities to actively participate in business ventures,” he said after visiting the project site recently.

Launched on Apr 15, he said the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Package A includes the construction of food stalls, cottage industry units, a wet and dry market, as well as supporting amenities such as public toilets, access roads, a drainage system, and a power supply station.

Meanwhile, under Package B, Awla said the second phase of the development has already commenced involving the construction of 10 two-storey shop houses and 10 two-storey mini shops.

The entire development is expected to lay a strong foundation for a more structured and sustainable township in Simunjan.

“Once completed, this project will transform Simunjan into a modern commercial hub that not only benefits the local population but also attracts interest from external investors,” he added.
