BINTULU: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized RM2.3 million worth of frozen food products during an operation codenamed ‘Op Taring Chiller’ yesterday (Mar 7).

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said a 28-year-old local man was arrested during the 10 am raid. 

The 12th Battalion’s Intelligence Branch inspected a premises in Bintulu following suspicions that it was being used as a cold storage facility for food products. 

“Further inspection led to the discovery of 27,131.80 kg of various types of frozen food products. 

“Also seized were two containers and seven vehicles of various types, with the total estimated value of the confiscated items amounting to RM2,326,524, based on market prices,” he said in a statement today. 

Che Ghazali added that the suspect and seized items had been handed over to the Sarawak Veterinary authorities for further action. 

The case is being investigated under Section 9(1)(3) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999. 

From Jan 1 to Mar 7, the Sarawak GOF Brigade recorded enforcement successes worth RM161 million, involving 66 cases, 165 arrests, and the seizure of 81 vehicles.
