SERIAN: A RM2.9-million upgrading project on road networks, drainage systems and public amenities in Kampung Merakai has finally been completed.
The completed upgrading project was under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), aiming to improve infrastructures around the village area.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus officiated the launching of the project at Kampung Merakai, noting that this reflects the government’s commitment to rural development and the livelihood of the community.
“The implementation of the project reflects the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to strengthening rural development while ensuring that the people benefit from more comfortable, safer and higher-quality infrastructure.
“The completion of this project not only makes daily life easier for residents but also enhances the community’s safety, comfort and accessibility. It also opens up greater opportunities for future development,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the ‘Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ event and official opening of GKCDA Projects for Bukit Semuja at Kampung Merakai community hall on Saturday (July 25).
The RM2.9-million project included the upgrading of Kampung Merakai Road, the installation of culverts to strengthen the drainage system, the resurfacing of internal village roads, and the construction of parking space at the Kampung Merakai community hall.
According to John, infrastructure development is not merely about providing physical facilities, but is also a strategic investment in improving the people’s quality of life and stimulating local socio-economic growth.
He stressed that the Sarawak Government will continue to bring more development projects to the Bukit Semuja area to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the state’s development.
He also described the successful completion of the project as the result of close cooperation among the implementing agencies, community leaders and local residents throughout its implementation.
