KUCHING: A total of RM200,000 has been successfully raised by the Muslim community in the state and the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) to assist flood victims in several areas across the country at the end of 2024.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said that the success of this fundraising effort reflects the strong compassion of Sarawak’s Muslim community toward those affected by natural disasters.

“The Sadaq Jumaat collection conducted in November and December 2024 at all mosques and suraus across Sarawak managed to raise RM178,265.95.

“To complete the total donation amount, MIS also contributed RM21,734.05, bringing the total to RM200,000,” he said at the Sarawak Muslim Community Donation Handover Ceremony today (Jan 31).

The symbolic handover of the funds was presented to state Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) Director Ustaz Hamdan Jar’ee, on behalf of JAKIM.

“It is understood that the donations will be channelled into the Tabung Musa’adah JAKIM-YWM account before being distributed to flood victims in need, including those in Sarawak,” he said.

Abdul Rahman said that in connection with this, MIS has also organised a Solat Hajat Bencana Banjir (Special Prayer for Flood Disaster) today (Jan 31), after Friday prayers, to pray for the wellbeing of the flood victims in Sarawak.

Also present were MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha, Sarawak Islamic Religious Department deputy director Ustaz Abang Borhanuddin Abang Masuine, and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak deputy general manager Bolhassan Iskandar Taibi.
