SIBURAN: Major rural road projects worth more than RM200 million are progressing here as part of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s ongoing push to strengthen infrastructure and expand economic opportunities in the interior.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the road linking Teng Bukap to Annah Rais is now at a critical stage under its first phase, costing about RM80 million, with a second phase expected to involve an additional RM126 million allocation.
He added that another proposed road project connecting Jalan Link Road to Kehom, estimated at between RM6 million and RM9 million, would further improve accessibility for residents once implemented.
“Every development project must undergo proper planning and established procedures, including tender processes and technical justification, to ensure effective implementation,” he said when speaking at the Kampung Peraya Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Muhibbah Night at Dewan Serbaguna Tapah on Saturday.
Sagah acknowledged that several projects under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) have experienced delays due to manpower shortages within implementing agencies such as the Public Works Department and local authorities.
Among the projects currently in progress is the upgrading of the Kampung Stabut-Kampung Peraya road, valued at RM5 million, which is now at the tender stage.
The Tarat assemblyman also encouraged communities in Kampung Peraya and nearby areas to explore ecotourism as an additional income source, noting that several rural villages elsewhere in Sarawak have successfully generated revenue through similar initiatives.
