LIMBANG: The Kedayan community here will have a fully equipped complex worth nearly RM25 million by the year 2027.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, said the Premier has approved the allocation for the construction of the complex.
It will be built on a 4.5-acre site near SJK(C) Yuk Hin, with two acres designated for a multi-purpose hall that can accommodate up to 700 people at a time.
The remaining area will be an open space for social activities such as the ‘Pesta Makan Tahun‘.
“This project is expected to begin as early as September or by December this year at the latest, and will take around 18 months to complete,” he said during the Aidilfitri gathering held at Limbang Civic Centre recently.
He also praised the Kedayan Association of Limbang for its continuous efforts in uplifting the Kedayan community to stand on equal footing with other ethnic groups.
He emphasised that the Kedayan community plays a vital role in the development of northern Sarawak districts such as Limbang, Lawas, northern Miri and Sipitang in Sabah.
He also urged the Kedayan community to maintain and make the best use of the new facility to strengthen community activities and enhance their collective well-being.
At the event, which was attended by approximately 570 guests, Dr Abdul Rahman also officiated the symbolic launch of the Kedayan Association of Limbang Membership Card, handing over the cards to Kedayan community leaders and the Association Chairman, Sufian Mohat.
