TEBEDU: The new RM3.3 million Kampung Gahat Mawang agricultural road construction project under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) serves as a vital catalyst in strengthening the agricultural sector and rural development within the Tebedu state constituency.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the project, Tebedu assemblyman Dr. Simon Sinang Bada said a total allocation of RM3.9 million has been provided for the project.

However, he said that RM3.3 million is being utilised for the implementation of the first phase, while the remainder will be used for other projects within the same village.

Dr. Sinang added that the primary objective of the project is to provide better access for farmers and planters to shorten the time taken to work the land, while also encouraging the use of modern technology in the agricultural sector.

He thanked the village chief and landowners for their cooperation and forward-thinking attitude in ensuring the success of the project.

He explained land values are expected to increase when there is good road access compared to land without infrastructure facilities.

At the same time, he advised residents to work together to care for and maintain the constructed facilities so they can be utilized over the long term.

He hoped the project could be completed ahead of the original schedule and requested the contractor to consider finishing it within one year instead of the two years stipulated.

The project involves a 5.7-km alignment, comprising 5 km of gravel agricultural road and 500 meters of concrete road, with an implementation period of two years starting from Feb 19, 2026, to Feb 18, 2028.

The construction involves bridge structures, culverts, and the installation of gabions to ensure a more robust drainage system and soil stability, making it safe for use by local residents.
