BINTANGOR: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM3.5 million for Phase Two of the upgrading works at the Bintangor Sports Complex.

Meradong assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, said the allocation follows the successful completion of Phase One of the project.

He said Phase Two will include the construction of an indoor stadium, along with additional external works to further improve facilities at the complex.

“The second phase is expected to enhance the quality of sports and recreational facilities in line with the growing needs of the local community,” he said, according to a TVS report.

Ding was speaking to reporters after witnessing the handover ceremony for the completed Phase One works at the complex here today (Jan 5).

He said Phase One involved an allocation of RM2.5 million, which covered the upgrading of the running track to improve safety, comfort and suitability for recreational and sporting activities.

“This upgrading effort has been a long-standing priority since I became a representative, and I am pleased to see the successful completion of the first phase,” he said.

Ding also proposed the installation of solar-powered lighting around the complex to enhance safety and enable recreational and sporting activities to be carried out at night.

He expressed appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the project, as well as the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) for implementing the works.

He urged residents in Meradong to make full use of the existing facilities before the complex is temporarily closed during the Phase Two upgrading works.

“These facilities are important, particularly for the local community and schools, which previously had to rely on facilities elsewhere for sports activities,” he said.
