BETONG:  The Sarawak government is allocating RM30 million to establish the Betong Youth Academy as a stronger platform to develop the potential of youths in the central region of Sarawak.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, said that the challenges faced by youth today are vastly different from those in the past.

As such, he stressed, the government must take proactive measures to provide comprehensive development efforts.

“The Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) has approved the construction of the Betong Youth Academy, under the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development.

“Our hope is to create a centre that can educate and develop youth potential because nowadays, for example in entrepreneurship, there are significant differences compared to before.

“If they are not trained, the development process for this generation will slow down,” he said.

He made these remarks when met after the Cheque Presentation Ceremony for the Access Road Project from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Ajau, Rumah Panjang Gensurai to Rumah Panjang Skatap at the Betong Digital Innovation Hub yesterday.

He explained that the location of the academy, near the Layar fertigation centre, will make it easier for youth to learn modern agriculture.

“As we know, the Bebuling Agriculture Park will also be launched soon, so the effort to establish the Betong Youth Academy is hoped to be tendered as soon as possible.

“This will ensure our youth are not left behind,” he added.

The assemblyman for Layar further said that the Betong Youth Academy, as a youth training centre, will not only focus on sports but also on entrepreneurship.

Additionally, it will serve as a multi-functional centre that benefits youth from Betong, Sri Aman and Sarikei, as it will be equipped with lecture halls, dormitories, recreation, and sports facilities.
