KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap handed over a RM380,000 cheque under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) to the Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association to support upgrading works at its temple facilities.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Yap said the allocation reflected Sarawak’s long-standing inclusive policies, where all religious communities are respected and supported in their role of promoting moral values, social cohesion, and community well-being.

He added that through UNIFOR, assistance is extended fairly and equitably to all faith communities, noting that such support goes beyond infrastructure to empower organisations that contribute positively to society.

Yap also said that under the Sarawak Budget 2026, the state government has allocated a total of RM120 million through UNIFOR to support religious institutions across Sarawak, including for upgrading works, maintenance, and community-focused programmes.

The allocation is aimed at ensuring continuity and sustainability so that religious bodies can plan ahead with confidence.

He commended the association’s consistent welfare and community efforts, saying they align with the Sarawak government’s vision of an inclusive and caring society, while reaffirming the state’s commitment to maintaining harmony in its multi-religious landscape.
