DALAT: The Sarawak government has continued to recognise the important role of Community Leaders and Village Heads (KMKK) as the backbone of grassroots administration.
This recognition is reflected in the approval of a RM400 increase in their monthly allowance, effective from Jan 1, this year.
Women, Early Children and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the increase is the highest ever in the history of the KMKK institution and reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding welfare and strengthening the professionalism of community leadership.
She said a total of 7,700 community leaders, including Temenggong, Pemancha, Penghulu and Ketua Kaum across Sarawak, will benefit from the allowance increase.
This move is in line with the need to enhance service quality in accordance with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Therefore, I would like to stress that this allowance increase must be accompanied by higher standards of integrity, accountability and performance among KMKK to ensure that government policies and initiatives are delivered effectively to the people,” she said in her address in an event with KMKK for Dalat constituency held at Dalat Welfare Complex recently.
She also urged KMKK to remain proactive, to convey accurate information to the community, and to act as agents of unity in preserving harmony within Dalat’s multi-ethnic and multicultural society.
The event served as an important platform to strengthen strategic cooperation between elected representatives, government agencies and community leaders, ensuring that inclusive development and the wellbeing of the people in the Dalat constituency continue to be upheld.
