BAU: The proposed RM40 million Serembu Food Processing Industrial Park in Paku could create up to 1,500 jobs once all its industrial lots are occupied.
Serembu assemblyman Datuk Miro Simuh said the development was intended to bring employment closer to communities in Bau while expanding the area’s food-processing industry.
“If all the industrial lots provided at the park are fully occupied, we may be able to create between 1,000 and 1,500 employment opportunities for people living around Bau,” he said when speaking at the Program Nyaruk BRS held in conjunction with the Pesta Nyobang Baruk and Bigumang Cultural Night 2026 at the Kampung Gumbang Community Centre here last night (Aug 29).
Miro said the project, supported by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), would be implemented in two packages.
The first package, costing RM20 million, would cover infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity supply.
Another RM20 million would be used for the second package involving the construction of factory buildings to be leased to tenants and interested investors.
Miro said four investors had so far confirmed their interest, representing an estimated total investment of RM30 million, adding that the park would be reserved for factories and other activities related to the food-processing industry.
The development formed part of efforts to shift Serembu’s focus from providing basic infrastructure towards creating economic opportunities and raising household incomes.
“We hope the opportunities we create will give them easier access to employment in the future,” he said.
