MIRI: The construction and upgrading of the Simpang Temala-Long Bemang Road and the Long Bemang Spur Road, costing RM44.9 million, is expected to be fully completed by June 2028, bringing improved connectivity and socio-economic opportunities to communities in the interior of Telang Usan.
Telang Usan assemblyman, Datuk Dennis Ngau said the project is expected to benefit about 3,500 residents in Long Bemang and several nearby settlements.
“I believe that better road facilities will not only make it easier to connect with outside areas, but will also serve as a catalyst for the socio-economic development of the local community, including facilitating daily activities and improving access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
“The project will also make it easier for residents to transport agricultural produce such as palm oil, sell river products, local handicrafts, and fruits,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Simpang Temala-Long Bemang Road and the Long Bemang Spur Road recently.
The project involves upgrading an existing logging road stretching five kilometres from Simpang Temala to the main road in Long Bemang.
Works on the Long Bemang Spur Road include upgrading a 6.6-kilometre earth road, improving an existing 0.75-kilometre concrete road and constructing a new 1.6-kilometre road.
The project, which began on December 30 last year is being implemented under the supervision of the Highland Development Agency (HDA).
