CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Press Institute-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025 (HKM 2025) has officially opened for submissions, offering RM450,000 in prizes across 23 categories for outstanding journalism.
The 45th edition of the award, regarded as the country’s most prestigious journalism recognition, began accepting entries on November 15.
In a statement, the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) said HKM 2025 continues to emphasise strong research, rigorous fact verification, deep contextual analysis, and innovative visual storytelling, including infographics and digital formats.
Investigative reporting, new findings and impactful public-interest journalism are highly encouraged.
MPI Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ainol Amriz Ismail, said HKM serves as the highest platform to honour integrity, courage and professionalism in Malaysian journalism.
“HKM evaluates works that matter to society, pieces built on solid research, rich context and fresh perspectives. We are looking for journalism that informs, inspires and drives change,” he said.
He urged journalists, including young reporters and seasoned practitioners, to take up the opportunity and submit their best work, noting their vital role in shaping an informed and mature society.
MPI said submissions are open to all media organisations, including print, digital, radio and television.
Entries will be evaluated by a panel of experienced judges from journalism and editorial backgrounds.
The closing date for HKM 2025 submissions is January 14, 2026, while nominations for the National Journalist Laureate, National Media Icon and Special Awards are open until March 31, 2026.
