THE 2026 State Budget will allocate RM46 million next year to implement rural electricity supply projects across Sarawak.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said currently, rural coverage stands at an impressive 98.6 per cent.

“The allocation will support projects such as Additional and Late Application Fund (ALAF), and connect stand-alone Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) villages or longhouses to nearby grid with road access.
“It will also fund the replacement of batteries and key components for stand-alone solar systems and the upgrading of electricity supply in the Samarahan Division,” he said when tabling the 2026 State Budget.
He added that this effort is further intensified through a provision of RM153 million under the Alternative Funding next year to implement the Rural Electrification Scheme.
Additionally, the Connection Charges Government Financial Assistance, introduced in January 2020 to assist low-income urban households with utility costs, will continue in 2026.
“The programme will continue in 2026 with an allocation of RM12 million,” he said.
