TEBEDU: The RM50 million Tebedu Economic and Cultural Hub project is set to begin in 2026, and poised to transform the ‘Pearl City’ into a thriving economic and cultural centre.
Tebedu assemblyman, Dr Simon Sinang Bada, said the project will be overseen by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) and is expected to be fully completed by 2028.
He asserted that the project aims to elevate the constituency to a new level of development, making it comparable to the progress seen in Serian.
“For years, the ‘Pearl City’ of Tebedu has been known for its name and history.
“Now, we are taking a bold step forward to modernise it into a more developed township.
“This project is not just about economic growth. It is about creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and improving the livelihood of Tebedu’s residents,” he said.
He said this during a dialogue session with landowners at the Tebedu District Office on Wednesday.
As part of the development, he said two companies have expressed interest in setting up factories within the designated industrial site, potentially generating over 2,000 job opportunities for the local workforce.
Sinang expressed optimism that the initiative would curb youth migration to Kuching and abroad in search of employment, offering them viable career options closer to home.
“By reducing dependence on major urban centres, we are giving our people the chance to build their future here in Tebedu,” he added.
