MUKAH: Any school which achieved good results in public examinations in the Tellian constituency will be awarded with a relevant mini project.

In making the pledge, Tellian Assemblyman, Yussibnosh Balo disclosed that the mini project would be in the form of a grant of RM50,000.

“But this grant would be for a relevant project and it is up to the winning school to decide or to come up with the project suitable for them,” Yussibnosh said at the  presentation of Sarawak Foundation (SF) School Uniform Vouchers 2017 held at SMK Three Rivers Mukah, recently.

Without elaborating further on the details of the pledge, Yussibnosh revealed that the kind of initiative or incentive has been adopted by Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah who is also Dalat Assemblywoman for  many years.

“I knew about it because I used to be the Dalat District Officer before I was elected as the state assemblyman about three years ago. Especially for the primary schools in Dalat, the district was the top in the state in UPSR for quite sometimes,” he added.

Hence, he hoped the token would become a booster of sorts for the students in his constituency to strive for excellence especially to place the education level in the area to the highest level possible.

“It is also in line with our aspiration of turning the area as a Smart City in the near future and now with a number of institutions of higher learning in Mukah and more in the pipeline. So our children do not have to go to other divisions in the state, Sabah or even to Peninsular Malaysia to further their studies,” Yussibnosh said.

Among those present were  Mukah District Officer, Shafrie Saili, principal of SMK Three Rivers, Jackson Apong, Mohd Shafiq Abdullah who represented Mukah District Education Officer, Haji Bugin Haji Ragoon,  a representative from Sarawak Foundation, Abdullah B Gapor, Deputy Chairman of SMK Three Rivers Parent-Teacher Association, Rapiee  Jaimin Yahya, school principals, headmasters and mistresses  and local community leaders.
