KUCHING: A total of RM51,000 in outright grants was distributed to mosques and suraus in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency to support preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Korban.

The grants were handed over by Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament Datuk Willie Mongin during a Berambeh Sungkei gathering organised by his service centre at the Bratan–Asah community hall near here on Friday evening.

A total of 25 religious institutions received the financial assistance, comprising 13 mosques and 12 suraus from various villages across the constituency.

According to Willie, the grants are aimed at helping the mosque and surau committees carry out activities and preparations related to Hari Raya Korban in May, including the organisation of korban rituals and community gatherings.

He said such contributions are important to support the role played by mosques and suraus as centres for religious and community activities.

“The assistance is meant to ease the burden of mosque and surau committees in organising Hari Raya Korban programmes and to ensure the celebration can be carried out smoothly,” he said.

Willie also expressed hope that the grants would strengthen ties among the Muslim community in the area, particularly through communal activities organised at the mosques and suraus.

The Berambeh Sungkei event also brought together local community leaders and residents, providing an opportunity for them to interact and foster closer relations while sharing the spirit of togetherness during the fasting month.
