KOTA SAMARAHAN: Construction is ongoing on a new 9.14km four-lane dual carriageway from Batang Samarahan to Batang Sadong at a cost of RM529,828,000.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo said the project began on Aug 8, 2023 and is expected to be completed on Feb 7, 2027.

He said the contract period for the project is 42 months and contractors are currently clearing the soil in the area.

Aidel was speaking to the media at the Batang Samarahan construction site yesterday.

He added that due to the increasing volume of vehicles around Kuching, Serian and Samarahan, which now exceeds 1.5 million people in total, the new Samarahan Bridge would be able to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow.

A JKR statement stated that the new 9.14km road will include P-turns, street lighting and traffic light systems. The new Samarahan Bridge road is 780m wide with two lanes of the existing Batang Samarahan Bridge.

“The project date of commencement is Aug 8, 2023 and is expected to be completed in Feb 7, 2026.

“The original sum of the project is RM106,968,880 and the contract period is 30 months,” Aidel said.

Among those present at the press conference were Kota Samarahan JKR engineer Indra Sakti Harun and JKR senior principal assistant director Teo Nguong Leong.
