DARO: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM58.5 million for the construction of a road linking Kampung Sawai to the main road leading to Sibu.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said the infrastructure project is expected to ease mobility, enhance the local transportation system, and unlock greater economic potential for the area.

“This project will facilitate access for Kampung Sawai residents to Sibu town and its surrounding areas,” he said.
“It will not only shorten travel time but also boost economic development through better connectivity.”

He made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the Annual Sports Championship and Lan Berambeh event at SK Kampung Sawai, held recently.

Safiee added that the project would also make it more convenient for residents to send their children to Sarawak government-owned institutions of higher learning (IPTs) in Sibu.

He encouraged parents to prioritise education and take advantage of this opportunity.

“We are aware that the free education initiative will begin in 2026, in line with the state government’s efforts to ensure more inclusive and comprehensive access to education, especially in rural areas like Daro,” he said.

“This initiative will greatly benefit parents, particularly those in rural areas.
It will not only reduce the financial burden of education but also open up more opportunities for children to excel academically.”

Safiee noted that education can transform a family’s economic prospects and uplift communities.

“Education not only shapes the future of children but also significantly impacts family income and quality of life.
Therefore, parents must ensure their children are given the best educational opportunities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Safiee also officiated the upgrading project of SK Kampung Sawai jetty, worth RM100,000, and witnessed the handover of the completed upgrading project of Surau Kampung Sawai, which also cost RM100,000.
