PADAWAN: A total of RM6.26 million has been allocated to the Mambong constituency under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) from 2015 to 2023, underscoring the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to uplifting rural communities.
Deputy Minister of Transport (Road and Aviation) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said Kampung Sapit emerged as one of the main beneficiaries of the RTP funds, receiving substantial allocations for the implementation of various basic infrastructure projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
“This allocation has been used for the implementation of several major projects, including the construction of the road from Kampung Parang to Kampung Sapit which cost RM5 million in 2016, the construction of the Kampung Sapit Multipurpose Hall worth RM150,000 in 2018, village road and footpath upgrading works costing RM200,000 which were implemented between 2020 and 2022, as well as the installation of a gravity water pipe system costing RM200,000 in 2023.
“Meanwhile, two other significant new allocations, namely RM20 million for the upgrading of Jalan Kampung Sapit and RM9 million for the upgrading of Jalan Kampung Kiding.
“The tender process for both projects is expected to open at the end of June 2025,” he said in his speech during the Public Infrastructure Opening Ceremony and Presentation of Certificates of Appointment for the Community Chief at Kampung Sapit here recently.
On the appointment of the new community chief, Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, stressed the importance of the role of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) as well as Village and Community Leaders (KMKK) in driving development at the grassroots level.
“The Community chief is the official representative of the government.
“They need to be a bridge between the people and the administration so that all development can be implemented effectively,” he said.
He also proposed the establishment of a village security team, including a General Operations Force (GOF) in strategic locations, as a measure to strengthen community security and provide reassurance to residents and visitors.
