MIRI: Fire destroyed a two-storey warehouse in Piasau Utara, here on Thursday night.
A team of 20 firefighters from Lopeng and Miri fire stations arrived at the scene within 10 minutes after receiving a call from the public.
“We responded to a call at 10.39pm.Firemen from both stations, two fire engines, one water tanker and two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS)teams were dispatched to the scene,” said Miri Fire Zone 6 chiefSupt Law PohKiong.
Nevertheless, there was nothing much they could do as the fire had almost destroyed the warehouse. But the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby building.
Fortunately, no one was injured. An ambulance from theMiriHospital was at the scene.
A forklift and a van were reportedly damaged in the incident.
Nearby workers from adjacent buildings were seen scampering out of their premises upon seeing smoke billowing from the warehouse.
“Fortunately, we were not asleep when the fire broke out,” said Lina Sali, who was staying in the workers’quarters near the warehouse.
Firemen were at the scene until 4.30am.
The actual cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained as investigations are still on-going.
Total loss was put at nearly RM600,000.
