KUCHING: An allocation of RM70,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) has been approved to repair a damaged perimeter fence at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Sam Hap Hin.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Sau Sin, said the fence, which had deteriorated over time, was at risk of collapsing and posed a serious safety hazard to students, staff and visitors.
He stressed that student safety must be prioritised at all times and described the current condition of the fencing as “unacceptable”.
“A school should be a safe place for learning. I have asked PWD to expedite repair works under my RTP funds,” he said.
He said this following a site inspection at the school on Friday, accompanied by officers from the Public Works Department (PWD) and community leader, Penghulu Lai Boon Khee.
PWD officers have carried out an on-site assessment and will implement short-term stabilisation steps while planning for a long-term solution.
Yap said the project must be treated as urgent to prevent the fencing from worsening and causing potential accidents.
He assured that he would monitor the repair progress closely and would not tolerate any delays in the implementation process.
“The well-being of our children is non-negotiable,” he added.
Yap said the visit reflected his ongoing commitment to upgrading school infrastructure and improving safety standards in Kota Sentosa.
He also urged parents, teachers and the local community to report any school infrastructure concerns directly to his office or the relevant departments.
“Safety is a shared responsibility, and together, we can create a secure environment for our children’s education,” he said.
