LUNDU: Kampung Biawak here is set to receive a more reliable water supply through the upgrading of its gravity-fed pipe system, costing RM700,000.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the project is fully funded under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), and aims to improve basic rural infrastructure, especially clean water access.
“This project will not only improve the current system but also ensure long-term access to clean and sufficient water for the villagers,” he said.
He said this during the project’s site handover to the appointed contractor, ED Builders Enterprise, at Kampung Biawak’s multipurpose hall today (June 20).
Billy added the initiative aligns with the government’s Greater Kuching development agenda, which prioritises equal access to essential services for rural communities.
The scope of work includes constructing a new dam, installing a new water storage tank, and replacing the main pipeline with a more suitable size.
He added it also involves pipe tapping to households, enabling direct water connection and reducing dependency on the older, less efficient supply lines.
