SRI AMAN: Families displaced by the recent Kampung Tengah fire here will soon move into rented homes, following a rental subsidy initiative by Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor.
The move is aimed at closing the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) and helping victims settle back into normal routines.
Each of the three selected families will have RM800 in monthly rent covered for the first six months, with payments made directly to their landlords.
They also received building materials under the Fire Disaster Aid (BEKR) programme to assist in rebuilding their homes.
The fire destroyed five houses and left three others damaged.
As part of immediate relief efforts, RM2,000 was given to each victim who lost their home, while RM500 was allocated to families with minor damage.
Dayang Noorazah further committed to extending the RM800 rental subsidy for a full year, with the initial six months paid in advance.
Site clearing for reconstruction will be carried out under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), and victims have been advised to confirm their land details with the Land and Survey Department to avoid disputes.
