KUCHING: The upcoming 7th Sarawak Tang Soo Do Championship 2026 received a boost after Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, presented an RM8,000 grant cheque to support the organisation of the tournament.

The mock cheque was received by Sarawak Samarahan Tang Soo Do Association’s representatives, Master Kiu Chiong Inn and Master Thum Mu Lanng.

Kiu said the championship is expected to attract about 300 participants.

“The event is expected to attract approximately 300 participants of various ethnic backgrounds from across Sarawak,” he said when contacted recently.

The championship, organised by the Sarawak Samarahan Tang Soo Do Association, will be held from July 11 to 12 at the 7th Mile Community Hall in Kota Sentosa.

Kiu added that Tang Soo Do practitioners from Sabah have also been invited to participate in the tournament.

“The participation aims to encourage healthy competition while strengthening camaraderie and exchanges among Tang Soo Do practitioners across East Malaysia,” he added.

According to him, the public can expect a variety of performances and competitive matches throughout the two-day championship.

“The public can expect a diverse showcase featuring participants as young as five years old demonstrating their foundational forms with discipline and focus.

“The championship will also include dynamic sparring matches, where practitioners of Tang Soo Do display their technical skills and sportsmanship”, he added.

Kiu said the championship also serves as a platform to promote discipline, sportsmanship and the development of Tang Soo Do among youths in Sarawak.
