KUCHING: Sentosa Hospital received a major boost in its efforts to improve mental healthcare services with the donation of RM946,000 worth of medical equipment from the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Urban Kuching.
The contribution, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in Sarawak, was lauded by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian as a significant step in enhancing patient care and supporting healthcare professionals, especially in a hospital whose primary focus is mental health.
“We all know that Hospital Sentosa is the only major specialist hospital to focus on mental health, but this donation show how inclusive it is. And I echoed the sentiment from the director Dr Rosliwati Md Yusoff that these tools is will serve the community effectively.
“It is also a reminder that mental health now, is really quite common and those who experienced it are seeking for help in the community,” he said at the handover ceremony at the hospital today.
He also echoed sentiments shared by hospital director Dr Rosliwati Md Yusoff, stressing that the donated tools would serve the community effectively.
“Mental health issues are now more prevalent than ever, and more people are seeking help. This is a reminder that mental well-being must be prioritised just like physical health,” he added.
Dr Sim noted that while many hospitals in other parts of the country face staff shortages, Sarawak’s challenge lies in the lack of adequate medical infrastructure despite having sufficient personnel.
“This donation directly addresses that gap by upgrading the hospital’s facilities to match the needs of our dedicated doctors and nurses,” he said.
The donation to Sentosa Hospital forms part of a wider healthcare initiative spearheaded by the Rotary Club and the Church, which also includes equipment donations to Bau Hospital (RM511,000) and Lundu Hospital (RM395,000).
A total of RM1.9 million worth of medical equipment has been distributed across the three hospitals.
