MIRI: Motorists are advised to plan their journeys ahead as several roads in Miri will be closed or diverted this weekend for the Kuala Baram Cycling Race 5.0, which will be held on Aug 1 and 2.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the annual race comprises a Time Trial event on Saturday (Aug 1) and a Road Race on Sunday (Aug 2), involving routes along Jalan Kuala Baram, Jalan Pesisir Pantai Miri-Bintulu and the Pan Borneo Highway.
For the Time Trial on Aug 1, roads along Jalan Kuala Baram, from the Senadin traffic lights to the Kampung Muhibbah junction, will be closed from 7.30am and are expected to reopen in stages from 10am.
The affected areas include:
• Senadin traffic lights
• Batu 1 Fish Market junction
• Asian Bridge junction
• Kampung Muhibbah U-turn
On Aug 2, a full road closure will be enforced along Jalan Bandaraya from 6am until noon, while roads along the race route will be closed in stages as cyclists pass through.
The race route covers:
• Jalan Bandaraya
• Jalan Marina Utama
• Jalan Tanjung Lobang
• Jalan Luak
• Jalan Bakam
• Jalan Pesisir Pantai Miri-Bintulu to Bekenu junction
• Jalan Bekenu
• Jalan Melor
• Jalan Bekenu Lama
• Pan Borneo Highway (from Bekenu flyover)
• Jalan Airport/Miri
Traffic diversions and temporary closures will also be implemented at key intersections, including Jalan Bandaraya, Jalan Marina Utama, Jalan Brighton, Tanjung Lobang, Luak, Masjid Luak, Jalan Aru, Bekenu junction, Jalan Melor, Jalan Bekenu Lama, Taman Tunku, Jalan Airport, Telang Usan roundabout, Ah Hong Supermarket and Kampung Luak.
Police have urged road users to cooperate with officers on duty and comply with all traffic instructions to ensure the smooth running of the event.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes such as Jalan Airport, Jalan Riam and Miri Bypass, and to avoid travelling along the Miri-Bintulu Coastal Road, particularly between the Taman Tunku traffic lights and the Telang Usan roundabout, while the race is in progress.
Participants are also advised to arrive early and park at designated areas around the Marina commercial precinct to minimise congestion.
