KUCHING: Various roads throughout the city centre will be temporarily closed for the 2024 New Year Countdown celebration at Kuching Waterfront here on Dec 31.
Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the event is expected to commence from 8 am on Dec 31 to 1 am the following day (Jan 1, 2025).
To facilitate the traffic flow, the police will set up road closures and diversions at Jalan Gambir, Jalan Lebuh Java and Jalan Gambir/Jalan Lebuh Java beginning 8 am.
More road closures and diversions will start at 4 pm affceting Jalan Main Bazaar from Jalan Wayang, Jalan Gambier from Jalan Market, and Jalan Gambir from Jalan Lebuh Java.
Road closures and diversions will begin at 4 pm, involving Jalan Lebuh Java from Jalan Market, the slip road into Jalan Wawasan from Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and the traffic lights at Jalan Wawasan, the slip road from Wisma Pelita to Jalan Lebuh Wayang, the slip road from Jalan McDougal to Jalan Lebuh Wayang, and the traffic lights at St. Mary from Jalan Tabuan heading towards Jalan Lebuh Wayang.
Mohd Farhan advised the general public who wish to attend the event to not park their cars along the shoulder of the road.
Public parking space is provided at Medan Pelita, Plaza Aurora, Plaza Merdeka, Hikmah Exchange, Sarawak Islamic Complex, Borneo Cultural Museum parking space, and Padang Pasir.
“The general public are also advised to plan their journey and choose alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion,” he said in a statement today.
