KUCHING: Infrastructure development, particularly road upgrading and drainage improvement, continues to be a key priority in Batu Kitang.
Its assemblyman, Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, has remained committed to addressing long-standing infrastructure issues in the constituency, especially in rapidly developing villages and residential settlements.
He said numerous projects aimed at improving road connectivity to people’s houses and mitigating flash floods through better drainage systems had been implemented over the years.
Many of these initiatives, he added, were funded through his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation, which has been consistently utilised to enhance basic infrastructure for residents.
Lo said upgrading village roads and improving drainage are essential as population growth and housing development continue to expand in several parts of Batu Kitang.
“Good roads and efficient drainage systems are crucial for the safety and comfort of residents.
“These improvements not only make daily travel easier but also help prevent flooding during heavy rain,” he said.
He noted that through the RTP funds, various projects have been carried out, including road resurfacing, road widening, construction of new access roads, and upgrading of drainage systems in flood-prone areas.
Apart from RTP, Lo has also been actively bringing additional development assistance to the constituency through other government allocations.
These include the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) fund, Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocations, Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), and house repair assistance provided by the Sarawak Government.
The funds have benefited many community groups, religious organisations and low-income families, particularly through infrastructure upgrades including places of worships for other religions, suraus or mosques, community halls, and repairs to homes in need.
Lo said the combination of these allocations has enabled him to address both community infrastructure needs and welfare concerns among constituents, adding that development efforts will continue to focus on improving living conditions for residents while ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with the constituency’s growth.
“With continuous support from the state government, we will keep pushing for more development projects to ensure the people of Batu Kitang enjoy better facilities and a higher quality of life,” he added.
