Road upgrading to complete in October

SADONG JAYA: The upgrading and rehabilitation of Sadong Jaya/Sungai Buluh Road Section 1 here costing RM9,348,576 is expected to complete by October this year.

Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the road project which stretches over 8 kilometres long is a package under the proposed upgrading and rehabilitation works along existing coastal road.

Borne by the state government, the project’s contractor is Prasarana Sempurna Sdn Bhd and the consultant is Perunding Anggun Tega Sdn Bhd.

“Among others, the scope of works includes road resurfacing, construction of asphaltic concrete road pavement with road shoulders widening and road furniture as well as all other works incidental to the foregoing, including any modifications carried out within the terms of the contract and necessary for the completion of the project.

“This upgrading and rehabilitation works are necessary because this road is the main temporary road for users until the completion of the Second Trunk Road which will bypass the said road,” he stated.

He said this after accompanying Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to visit the project site at four-way intersection in Kampung Iboi here today.

Julaihi further said the total length of the state coastal road is about 896km. Of these, 321km road has been identified for upgrading and rehabilitation works divided into 23 packages.

He also said that the upgrading and rehabilitation works is among three components of the coastal road network apart from constructing bridges to replace ferry services and constructing missing links.

Among those present during the visit were Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Idris and the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Safri Zainuddin.
