BINTULU: Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee has reminded all road users not to stop their vehicles along the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge, except in cases of emergency.
“Stopping on the bridge without a valid reason is not only against the law but also endangers the safety of other road users.
“I urge all motorists to be more responsible and adhere to traffic regulations. This bridge is a vital main route, and stopping without cause can pose a risk of accidents and disrupt traffic flow,” he said when met at the MOTAC Hari Raya Gathering with the Community@Bintulu 2025 at the Jepak Petanque Arena last night.
He also called on the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to increase patrols in the area, particularly during peak hours and at night, as a preventive measure.
At the same time, Iskandar also advised youths, particularly motorcyclists, to always obey traffic laws and prioritise their own safety as well as that of others.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. I hope all road users act prudently and do not treat the bridge as a place to stop or gather, which could lead to danger.”
He stressed that public cooperation and awareness are crucial to ensuring the safety and smooth flow of traffic on this route.
Meanwhile, Bintulu JPJ announced that stopping vehicles on the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge has been strictly prohibited since April 20.
The ban has been enforced to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of all road users.
According to the statement, stern action will be taken against any driver found stopping their vehicle on the bridge without a valid reason.
“This act not only disrupts traffic and endangers other road users, but also violates the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Road Traffic Rules 1959,” the statement said.
Offenders may face a fine ranging from RM150 to RM300, in addition to demerit points under the KEJARA system. In serious cases, offenders may be fined up to RM2,000 or face imprisonment of up to six months if the act results in an accident.
The department also urged the public to report any violations by submitting photos or videos of vehicles stopped on the bridge via WhatsApp to 013-4498997 or by email to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my.
