KUCHING: Sarawak’s ongoing bridge and road projects are making it easier for residents to return home for festive celebrations, while also strengthening the state’s transportation network.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said citizens no longer need to worry about congestion when taking ferries, thanks to improved and safer infrastructure across the state.
“During this year’s Hari Raya, fewer people are using ferries in areas like Daro, Igan, Mukah, Betong, and Sri Aman because many major bridges have been completed. This means there is no longer any worry about visiting relatives in our villages,” he said.
The premier made the remarks during the Symbolic Hari Raya Contribution Handover 2026 event at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
He highlighted that the toll-free Pan Borneo Highway and other road networks provide smoother and more comfortable travel, especially for long-distance journeys during festive seasons.
Beyond infrastructure, he emphasised the government’s commitment to welfare, noting initiatives such as the provision of laptops and free education for Sarawakian children this year.
“These efforts ensure that all Sarawakians have equal opportunities to build a better future,” he added.
