KUCHING: Kuching Specialist Hospital (KcSH) has been named Specialty Hospital of the Year (Orthopaedics) – Malaysia at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in advanced orthopaedic care.
The award was received by Regional CEO Dr Kenny Yeap Kim Pey at a ceremony held at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, which brought together leading healthcare institutions from across Asia.
The recognition reflects the hospital’s progress in robotic-assisted surgery and its growing surgical volume, particularly in total knee replacement (TKR) procedures.
KcSH has completed 1,800 robotic-assisted TKR surgeries as of February 2026, including 950 cases recorded last year alone.
The programme, led by consultant orthopaedic surgeons Dr Lee Woo Guan and Dr Nazari Ahmad Tarmuzi, utilises advanced systems such as the VELYS robotic-assisted solution, which enhances surgical precision through real-time mapping and evaluation.
Hospital officials said the technology allows for improved implant positioning and faster patient recovery, supported by minimally invasive techniques and early mobilisation protocols.
Among the cases highlighted was a 79-year-old patient from Jakarta who regained mobility within days after undergoing surgery at the hospital.
KcSH has also introduced streamlined pre-operative processes and coordinated rehabilitation programmes aligned with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) principles to improve patient outcomes.
Looking ahead, the hospital plans to expand its involvement in clinical research, focusing on functional outcomes, implant longevity and alignment techniques in robotic-assisted procedures.
KcSH said it will continue to enhance patient-centred services by integrating advanced technology and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration.
