SARIKEI: The completion of key infrastructure networks, such as bridge projects, the Pan Borneo Highway and coastal roads, is set to position Sarikei as a major stopover hub in the Sarawak’s Central Zone.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said the strategic developments will significantly enhance connectivity, improve mobility, and attract more visitors to the area.
He noted that the readiness of these transport networks is expected to generate positive economic spillover effects for local communities while strengthening social interaction.

“When all these connectivity networks are fully operational, Sarikei will emerge as an important stopover location that brings direct benefits to the people,” he said.
He was speaking at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with leaders of the Kuala Rajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency at the Kampung Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall on Wednesday.
Len Talif, who is also the Kuala Rajang assemblyman, emphasised that human capital development must be strengthened to meet the growing demand for skilled workers and experts in tandem with Sarawak’s ongoing development projects.
He added that the technical sector remains a key priority under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), particularly in reducing reliance on foreign labour.
“The Sarawak Government continues to play a vital role by providing facilities and free education assistance to ensure Sarawakian youths are equipped to become skilled workers and professionals in needed fields.
“The PCDS 2030 outlines a clear and comprehensive development roadmap, covering infrastructure, human capital and sustainable facilities to enhance overall well-being,” he said.
