KUCHING: Sarawak-Australia Business Chamber (SABC) President, Rodger Chan, has described receiving the Johan Bintang Sarawak (JBS) award from Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at the Astana Negeri Sarawak today as a great honour.
He was among the recipients of the prestigious award, along with Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Ruslan Abdul Ghani, and Pemanca Roshidi Junai.
In an interview shortly after the ceremony, Chan expressed his deep appreciation for the state recognition.
“This is the second award I’ve received, following the Pegawai Bintang Kenyalang (PBK) award several years ago.
“For this JBS award, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and my wife Sow Fong for this honour,” he said.
According to Chan, who is also President of the Chung Hua Primary School No. 5 Kuching Alumni Association, his first award (PBK) was personally nominated by the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Chan is a member of the Sarawak Early Childhood Development Council, Vice-President of the Sarawak Chawan Association, Vice-President of the Sarawak Tian Association (Chan), and the founding director of Tunku Putra School.
He also holds numerous senior positions in various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including Chinese school boards, business chambers, and other NGOs.
Earlier, a total of 151 recipients were conferred various state orders, decorations, and medals during the Sarawak State Orders and Medals Investiture Ceremony for the Year 2023, held at the Astana Negeri Sarawak.
The awards were given in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions in various sectors for the people and the state of Sarawak.
The investiture ceremony was officiated by Wan Junaidi and attended by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
